In the last few seasons, the goalkeeper spot has become less of a concern for FPL managers. Two seasons ago, it was Becker or Ederson in almost every FPL manager’s team. And last year it was Mendy who joined the party.
But we believe that there is still space for saving budget in the heart of the defensive line.
To stand out, it is hence necessary to spend the available budget in the most cost-effective manner and this is where the FPL Budget Goalkeepers come in handy.
In the presence of big teams and big names, there are players like Emiliano Martinez (available in £5.5m), who can help you score better while saving that £0.5m.
Below is the list of 5 goalkeepers that you can consider for your fpl team.
1. David Raya Martin (Brentford)
- Season starting Price: £4.5m
2021-22 Premier League season is the debut season for Raya in the newly promoted side of Brentford. In game week 1 he kept a clean sheet against Arsenal. Made 4 saves and with a bonus point scored 8 points on a full debut.
David Raya Martin can prove to be a budget asset in Premier League Fantasy Football if he keeps that performance up and running. His next 4 fixtures, Crystal Palace (A), Aston Villa (A), Brighton & Hove Albion (H) and Wolves (A) are relatively easier fixtures in comparison to the next 4 where Brenford will play Liverpool, Westham United, Chelsea and Leicester. So if you are considering him for your team, now is the best time to transfer him in. He won’t stay at £4.5m for too long.
2. Rui Patricio (Wolves)
- Season starting Price: £5.0
Next on the list of FPL Budget Goalkeepers is Rui Patricio.
In a Portuguese packed team of Wolverhampton Wanderers, there seems a sense of safety in the defensive lines. Wolves are not an incredible Premier League team but they are balanced all around the pitch.
A team that concedes less than 2 goals per game week and relies solely on a winning goal is usually solid at the back. And this is where Patricio and Wolves can come in handy for your team.
Although he kept only 10 clean sheets last season and scored 132 points, a very good enough number for a budget goalkeeper, there is a lack of surety whether Wolves can be believed at the back or not.
But since numbers are there we are putting Patricio on our list of budget goalkeepers.
3. Emiliano Martínez (Aston Villa)
- Season starting Price: £5.5m
Last season, Emiliano was available for £4m but after finishing the season as the top-scoring goalkeeper in the fantasy premier league, he is valued at £5.5m this time around.
He scored 186 points while keeping 15 clean sheets.
You can pick him as a first-choice goalkeeper if you are willing to take some risk and invest your budget in more attacking places.
4. Illan Meslier(Leeds United)
- Season starting Price: £5m
Returning from the Championship, Leeds had an incredible season last year. They finished 9th and surprised the big guns with their incredible no fear gameplay.
And the credit goes to players and team management.
This year, it is expected that Leeds United will improve on what they did last year. They look in good shape and have good an incredible talent in the heart of the defence.
Illan Meslier in no way is a gambit and can easily be your 1st choice goalkeeper if you go with a rotation policy between 2 goalkeepers.
Last season he scored 154 points while keeping 11 clean sheets in 3150 minutes of gameplay.
He is in our options to choose between budget goalkeepers.
5. Robert Sanchez (Brighton & Hove Albion)
- Season starting Price: £4.5m
Mathew Ryan was the 1st choice goalkeeper of Brighton for quite some time. But since last season, he is replaced by Robert Sanchez.
He had a decent season between the sticks last time around, keeping 10 clean sheets and scoring 101 points while playing 2430 minutes.
These are a fair enough number for a goalkeeper that costs only £4.5m.
